The last few days I have shared the first two parts of a three part series in which airline industry experts discuss the approaching pilot shortage expected in the near future. Today we look at the last of the series.
The third part of this series focuses on a presentation by John Dixon, who was recently the Director of Pilot Recruitment for American Eagle Airlines. Captain Dixon outlines the problems he faces as an airline recruiter in light of the most recent pilot shortage as well as the shortage looking into the future. The situation he describes began in early 2006 and continued until the price of oil spiked in 2007 and gave way to the current recession. The same shortage of qualified pilots is expected to resume with the recovery of our economy.
This series was presented by Moderator Peter J. Wolfe, Executive Director of The Professional Aviation Board of Certification (PABC). Presentations were also delivered by Kit Darby, President of Kit Darby Aviation Consulting and Captain Paul Rice, First Vice President of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA).
