I read an interesting article in Forbes magazine that was speaking about how the jobs that we all wanted when we were young actually pay now. Not surprisingly, flying for a living was second only to being a professional athlete for young people who were asked what they wanted to do when they grew up. Unfortunately, out of a total population of nearly 313 Million people in the United States only 12,450 of them are professional athletes. The news is much better for those wanting to fly for a living. The article in Forbes states that “Last year LinkedIn asked 8,000 professionals what they had thought they wanted to be when they grew up. The survey found that the top childhood dream jobs for men in the U.S. were a professional or Olympic athlete, airplane or helicopter pilot, scientist, lawyer and astronaut. Airplane or helicopter pilot was the second most common dream jobs among men in the U.S. Almost 7% of male respondents said they dreamed of flying. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the 66,270 airline pilots, copilots and flight engineers in the U.S. earn about $128,760 a year, while the top 10% make more than $187,000, on average. Commercial pilots make $80,140 a year, on average. That number increases to $134,990 for the top earners in the profession. There are 34,990 commercial pilots in the United States.” That number also indicates the severe shortage in pilots to fly professionally for the US Aviation Industry. There are interesting high-paying flying jobs available for those who are qualified for them, and anyone interested in those jobs should consider this the best time in decades to get the flight training that will qualify you. Once you decide that becoming an Airline Pilot interests you, train for success with ATP. We have placed more professional pilots in the industry than any other flight training organization of any type in the United States. Once you decide you want to fly for living, remember that getting the job before your competition means you will have seniority over them for the rest of your career. Get their first with ATP.
