United States’ Regional Airlines Purchase New Aircraft and Adjust to Changes in US Market
American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United, together with their regional partners, have outstanding firm orders for 151 76-seat Bombardier CRJ900 and Embraer 175 aircraft, and options for an additional 177 aircraft. This does not include six E-175s that Republic Airways had taken delivery of for American as of 29 September.

Republic Airlines Takes Delivery of Embraer’s 1,000th E-Jet
Embraer has delivered the 1,000th E-Jet production aircraft, an Embraer 175 which the manufacturer handed over to Republic Airlines at the manufacturer’s final-assembly line at São José dos Campos in Brazil’s São Paulo state. Republic Airlines, a subsidiary of Republic Airways Holdings Inc., will operate the Embraer 175 on behalf of American Eagle.

Delta Air Lines Announces Purchase Of 40 New Airbus Aircraft
Delta Air Lines today announced plans to purchase 40 Airbus aircraft for delivery between 2015 and 2017. The order, which comprises 10 international widebody A330-300 and 30 large domestic narrowbody A321 jets, is the latest step in Delta’s prudent fleet renewal to enhance profitability while diligently managing capacity.
“This Airbus agreement is another opportunistic fleet transaction for Delta in which we acquire economically efficient, proven-technology aircraft,” said Richard Anderson, Delta’s chief executive officer. “These A330s and A321s will provide tremendous flexibility for Delta to optimally manage our capacity over the next five years while further improving the flight experience for our customers and returns for our shareholders.
“Disciplined capital deployment is a cornerstone of Delta’s comprehensive financial plan,” said Paul Jacobson, Delta’s chief financial officer. “These Airbus aircraft will generate free cash flow and improve our return on invested capital from the time they enter service.”
United Airlines Proves That Recession Caused Problems Are Disappearing
The economic recession that began at the end of 2007 forced the airline industry to shrink, and the affects of that economic contraction are being dealt with more than four years after the recession officially came to an end, in June 2009.

Looming Pilot Shortage Presents ‘Interesting Dilemma’ according to the FAA
FAA deputy director of flight standards John Duncan told attendees at this week’s NATA Air Charter Summit that he gets involved in discussions about pilot shortages in a lot of different venues. “From an academic standpoint, it’s going to be interesting,” he said. “But from a community standpoint, it’s probably going to be a little painful. This is an interesting dilemma for the aviation community.”
