Southwest Airlines Orders 208 Boeing 737s worth $19 Billion
Southwest Airlines Co. reported Tuesday that it ordered 208 new Boeing 737 aircraft with a value of nearly $19 billion. Southwest now operates 565 Boeing 737s in its fleet. The order lends credence to Boeings forecast that over 39,500 new aircraft will be in operation over the next 20 years in the growing airline industry, creating the need for over 183,000 new pilots worldwide with 82,800 of these new pilots flying in the United States.

JetBlue Airways Reports Increase in Passenger Traffic

SkyWest, Inc., Reports Traffic Increase in November 2011 for SkyWest Airlines, Atlantic Southeast Airlines and ExpressJet Airlines
St. George, Utah based SkyWest, Inc. reported a 12.4 percent increase in passenger traffic for November compared to the same period last year. SkyWest’s load factor, the percentage of available seats that were filled with passengers, was 80.3 percent which was an increase of 1.1 percent compared to November of 2010.

Southwest Airlines Expects Continued Revenue Growth in December
Southwest Airlines expects another “exceptional” month of revenue growth for December, according to Chief Financial Officer Laura Wright. For November, Southwest saw its unit revenue rise an estimated 9%, and another impressive increase is expected for the current month, Wright said.
